That’s Just Gibberish!
Improvistaionsstudion from Stockholm, Sweden gives you That’s just Gibberish!
You don’t speak Swedish, English, Hindi, German or Mandarin? No problem. That’s just Gibberish is the first show that anyone can see regardless of what language you speak. It’s entirely in Gibberish, the universal nonsense language that no one gets, but everyone understands. Four improvisers and a musician will take you on an improvised roller coaster, in a world beyond words, where everything is possible! A colourful performance of singing, dancing, crazy sense of humor, live music, and rapping. Everything is made up on the spot (even the made-up language that is spoken) and we get suggestions on themes from the audience (No, you won’t be pulled up on stage!). A few words from our director about the background and theme of the show:
What is a language? Making an improvised performance entirely in nonsense language has not been done before and the rehearsal period has partly been devoted to exploring what a language is. How big a part is body language (posture, voice, emotional sounds, gestures, etc.) in interpersonal communication? What happens when we keep everything in a dialogue except the semantic meaning and how do we keep the audience engaged?
Mime, dance and various forms of physical theatre have a long tradition of telling stories beyond words. Acting in pure nonsense language creates its own genre that brings together the non-verbal art forms with the rules of the usual spoken theatre. Dialogues are conducted and we understand without understanding.
Improvised Gibberish can be described as jazz music for the theatre where there are common rules that the performing arts can use beyond the linguistic limitations. In our performance we go all in and not a single word is said in Swedish or any other language. In 2023 we will tour with the performance abroad and in Sweden. We thus see Gibberish as a stage language that the whole planet will be able to understand!I hope you will enjoy your evening here with us!
